The shelter manager brought in some white charcoal and black paper today to throw me a curveball (I’ve done a couple regular charcoal drawings since been here, notably this one).

This is what I came up with.


I more or less cheated in that I ended up saturating the damn paper and brought in an eraser to essentially draw with black on the white mess I’d made. It was interesting, however, to have to reverse the technique; it wasn’t as difficult as one might think to swap the method as I stuck to black and white and the eraser worked just as well as it would with black charcoal.

I got lazy on the left side, and it shows.
